The mission of Calvary Chapel Christian School’s Grizzly Academy satellite campus is to support Christian parents in building a strong moral foundation based upon scriptural principles, which will enable each child to meet the challenges and conflicts he will encounter in life.

The Grizzly Academy operates as an extended campus under the private school affidavit of Calvary Chapel Christian School (CCCS). Each home is a satellite location of the private school with the parents or guardians managing the academics of their own children. The students are part of the student body at CCCS, therefore eligible to participate in various extracurricular activities.

High school students are required to follow the standard academic rigors and graduation requirements according to the CCCS curriculum guides. High school classes are completed in a variety of venues which may include main campus courses at CCCS, Calvary Chapel Bible College, community colleges, and online courses.

There are programs for junior high and elementary tracks, as well as educational plans that minister to the needs of gifted students and students who need modified learning environments. This is not a home school support group.

For more information email kgarcia@calvarydowney.org, call the GA Office at 562-803-4191, or contact the Director Mrs. Jeanie Matranga at 562-843-3219.

INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION

We require the parent-teacher’s personal interaction in their student’s daily instructional input along with monitoring, recording, and keeping files of his/her progress. We will not agree to the parent-teacher leaving a student to themselves during school hours to complete assigned work while that parent is at work or school. Therefore, the parent-teacher primarily responsible for the student’s instruction may not work either full time or part time during school hours, nor be involved in any activity that will regularly intrude upon the school hours of the student.

Satellite school families are required to provide their own textbooks, teacher’s manuals, and other teaching supplies. Students taking courses on campus will pay additional fees for on-campus courses including textbook purchase or rental, sports fees, lab fees, or purchase of uniforms that are needed for their chosen on-campus courses. Students taking on-campus courses are required to  read the Calvary Chapel Christian School Parent/Student Handbook from the appropriate school office, and cooperate with all school rules and guidelines. Signatures of agreement will be required.

PHILOSOPHY

The educational philosophy of Calvary Chapel Christian School is based upon a God-centered view that His Word is the standard for all truth, and that the Bible is the only infallible, authoritative, and inerrant Word of God.

We believe that providing spiritual unity is of utmost importance to a secure and balanced learning environment. Therefore, the satellite school parent must agree with our complete Statement of Faith. Seventh through twelfth grade students must also profess a personal faith in Jesus Christ and be actively seeking His Lordship in their life.

PURPOSE

SPIRITUAL– God has appointed parents with the primary responsibility of training and nurturing their children in the ways of the Lord.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your hearts. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up...” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7 NKJV)

ACADEMIC– We believe that all children should have the opportunity to be successful in learning situations. To that end, Calvary Chapel Christian School Grizzly Academy works to provide structure, accountability and encouragement to help achieve the educational goals set forth for each child.
